About Coach Schrider


At Big Skill Training, our mission is clear: to develop elite defensive linemen and pass rushers at every level. Led by Coach Ben Hawk Schrider, a Berkeley, CA native with a wealth of experience both on the field and on the sidelines, BST is committed to helping athletes achieve their goals and dominate the game.

Coach Schrider brings a unique combination of playing and coaching expertise to Big Skill Training. As a former Division 1 athlete, he competed at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and the University of California-Berkeley. Upon earning a BA in Social Work and a Master’s in Public Health, he transitioned into coaching and is now entering his 5th year in the college coaching ranks.

  • 2020: Saint Mary’s College High School (Defensive Coordinator)

  • 2021-22: University of California-Berkeley (OLB/DL Graduate Assistant)

  • 2023-25: College of San Mateo (Edges)

Throughout his coaching career, Coach Schrider has mentored and trained numerous NFL and Division 1 players. Most recently, he worked with a standout defensive front at the College of San Mateo, contributing to the team’s 2024 JC National Championship victory. Under his guidance, the unit finished 2nd in the state in sacks, and his starting edge rusher, John Gayer, broke the CSM single-season sack record with 15.5 sacks and led the state in TFLs.

Coach Schrider’s passion lies in developing players at all levels, from Pop Warner to the NFL. His focus on fundamentals, technique, and defensive dominance ensures that every athlete he works with is prepared to excel on the field.
